In December 2012, students studying the Artistic Dress elective staged a series of tableaux vivants in the Glasgow School of Art’s famous Mackintosh Library. The tableau vivant was a popular form of artistic performance in the 19th century, in which groups of costumed participants strike poses and assume group compositions in theatrically lit interiors. The one rule is that participants do not move or speak, but instead are presented to the viewer as if a ‘living picture’.
